August 16th Meeting

Summary of meeting on the 16th of August.

  • Trail Run news
  • Stickers
  • Park Clean-up

With the most recently scheduled trail run to Hatcher Pass canceled (due to most interested parties wheeling on Saturday, or having mechanical problems); it was rescheduled for August 18th.  As far as I know, the run went as planned (a relative term of course).

The new club logo stickers are done, look great, and are available from Dave Arieno for all members.

The meeting was kept fairly brief, so that we could proceed to the Valley Street Park.  There was some doubts about picking up trash in the rain, but everyone present shrugged it off and got to work.  The clean-up actually went really well.  The club collected approximately a pick up bed worth of trash, including 2 tires, a bicycle, and numerous cans and bottles.  We even dragged an abandoned and burned car to the street for proper disposal.  Special appreciation should go out to Dave Wheeler, Ron Miller, and Peter Wong's kids for bringing waders and getting out in the water to collect trash.  Ron and Dave were seen literally raking in the trash floating in the water.  It was unanimously decided that the 10-12 people working for about an hour on the park made a noticeable and considerable difference in the appearance.

The next club meeting is scheduled for August 30th, 7pm at Sicily's Pizza by Northern Lights and Muldoon.

Meeting Reminder

Just wanted to remind all club members, and prospective members, that our next meeting will be August 16th, and we will be cleaning up the Valley Street Park.  We will meet at Sicily's Pizza (corner of Northern Lights and Muldoon), at 7pm as usual, then head over the park.  Please bring waders and gloves.  Valley St. Park is located off Valley drive between 6th and 10th Aves.

August Meeting, and some web updates

Summary of our meeting on the 2nd of August.

  • Stickers
  • Community Service ideas, Park Clean-up

Jerry Hermann found an acceptable bid to make the stickers, using the design we all voted on.  New stickers should be available at the next meeting.

As was discussed in our past meeting, the club has chosen to Adopt a Park.  Our president has contacted the appropriate people, we are now responsible to clean up Valley Street Park.  The program requires that we clean it up once a month.  It was decided in the meeting that we would start by holding our first park clean-up during our next regularly scheduled meeting, August 16th.  Check the calendar for details.  We may do a club barbeque at the same time, to promote attendance.

July 19th Meeting, and some web updates

Sorry took so long to put this up here, but was due to problems with connecting to the ftp server, I was unable to upload any information.  If that was greek to you, just know that there has been 'technical difficulties'.  Summary of our meeting on the 19th of this month.

  • Stickers
  • Community Service ideas, Park Clean-up

As mentioned in our Presidents column, the sticker design we all voted on, and so much liked, may a bit more expense to have made in quantity.  As of right now, more quotes are being sought out.  No final decision was made, as to weather we find a decent a price for the current design or try to get a simpler (and cheaper) design.

Our president did some research for the club's proposed community service idea.  It seems all, of the highways are taken.  In other words, no 'Adopt a Highway' for the Alaska Extreme Fourwheelers.  So the next idea is to 'Adopt a Park' around Anchorage.  Some suggestions were made, though I failed to make note of specific names.  We are looking for a fairly small park, that could be cleaned up easily in an afternoon as well as provide good visibility.  If you have any suggestions, please pass them onto Dave Arieno, or bring them to the next meeting.

That about summarizes our latest meeting.  Plans were made for the next trail run, but as I was slow in posting this to the web page, its not worth giving details.  The next club meeting will be August 2nd.

July 5th, 2001 Meeting and some more updates

I added the Boulder Creek photo gallery, finally.  Stephen Pugyao and information about his Samurai have been added to the Members Rigs section.  We now have 14 members and their rides listed.  I got a copy the new logo Jerry Hermann made for the club, this will be used for the next batch of club stickers.  You can preview the logo by clicking here.

On July 5th we had another regularly scheduled meeting.  The topics discussed were:

  • Next trail run, Ruby Lake
  • Community Service ideas
  • Tech Inspections (a null topic at this point?)

The next trail run will be to Ruby Lake.  See calendar for details.  Note: It was decided to have only one official meeting place in Palmer this time, for everyone from Anchorage, Eagle River, and the valley to meet.  Please plan accordingly.

With the appropriate personnel failing to return our Presidents phone calls and offer to help clean up Eklutna, it has been decided to look for another project.  Trail maintenance is not feasible because of the time of year, we will have to postpone that idea till next spring.  Other possibilities could be a small park clean-up, or 'adopt a highway'.  If any members have certain stretches of road or park they wish suggest, please contact our president.

Nothing new to report on tech inspections.
